1950~ 60년도 저울을 속이는 상인들이 많았지만 결코 그런 짓을 하지 않은 창업주는 늘상 주변 철재상들보다 비싸다는 말을 들어야 했다. 장남 유재성이 왜 우리만 비싸게 판다는 말을 들어야하느냐고 묻자 그는 귀가 하나뿐인 사람들이 사는 동네에서는 귀가 둘인 사람이 병신이 되는 법이다고 대답했다.
한참 후에 아버지의 말뜻을 깨달은 유재성 회장은 철근 취급을 아예 중단해 버렸다. 중량으로 판매하는 철근이 철재상들이 가장 많이 장난치는 품목이었기 때문이다.
Lots of businessmen tricked using their scales in 1950s to 1960s. The Founder, however, had to hear that his prices were higher than other steel distributors always as he never had done such cheating. When his first-born son, Yu Jae-Seong asked why we had to hear that only we were selling expensively, he replied that in a town of one-eared people, one who has both ears shall be an invalid.
After some while when Chairman Yu Jae-Seong realized the meaning, he quit dealing with steel at all, as the steel sold by weight was the item with which cheating was most prevalent among steel distributors.
